We will assess your problem and create an individualised plan for treatment. This will involve you as the patient to help guide us to what goals you wish to achieve, both short term and long term. Once we have a treatment plan in place we can begin to make progress. We will constantly reassess and progress our physiotherapy treatment as you get better.
What sort of treatment do we use?As physiotherapists, we have been taught an array of tools and strategies that we can utilise for treatment. Our job is to pick the appropriate tool for the right patient. One of the key aspects to physio treatment is advice and education; as the patient, it is really important that you have a clear understanding of what is causing your problem and the steps required to fix it. Our treatment plans are holistic in nature and focus on making improvements to your lifestyle, activities and general health. These areas are especially key in the more complex pain problems and difficult injuries.
If you have been suffering for a long time and have had no luck with treatment in the past it may be because of some lifestyle factor that was hindering your ability to recover. It could be that you are stressed and your system is always in the flight or fight mode. It could be that your sleep is not adequate and you aren’t allowing your body enough time to recover. It could be that your nutrition is poor and you aren’t getting the right fuel in your system to repair. Or it could be that a lack of general exercise has limited your muscle mass and has left you susceptible to injury. Either way, it is key to address these underlying lifestyle factors and start to implement a plan to make some positive changes. Our hornsby physio team are well qualified and have an excellent understanding of strategies that can help you achieve these goals.
In a more acute setting, we utilise manual therapy as a tool to help reduce pain and it is quite effective. Manual therapy helps to dampen down the nervous system and allow the body to relax, facilitating healthy movement and reducing your pain. We also utilise specific exercise as a tool to help reinforce strength and stability when required. This is especially useful post-surgery or with any sports injury. Good physio requires a skilful and thorough assessment, collaboration with the patient for goal setting and treatment planning, and good execution of plans to achieve the results required. |
Back PainBack pain is one of the leading causes of visits to a physiotherapist. Interestingly, less than 1% of all back pain has a severe pathological cause. We approach the management of back pain using a bio-psycho-social framework. We assess your movement, function and pain behaviour thoroughly and help you find a solution. Our approach focuses on education around the mechanisms of pain. How to appropriately manage your pain and what the appropriate course of action is. We appreciate that back pain is complex and every patient is different, so we tailor our treatment sessions appropriately. Talk to our Hornsby physiotherapy team to find out more. Headaches and jaw pain can be debilitating sources of pain. They can stop you in your tracks and cause you a lot of distress. It is important with headaches and jaw pain to identify the source of pain. Our focus is on developing active coping strategies for pain relief. Exercises and improvement in movement patterns is critical in finding a solution. It is also important to rule out other potential drivers of headaches such as dehydration or allergies.
